My desk top home computer is connected to a cable internet, how do I connect my recently bought lap top to internet without having to pay for a monthly bill of $50 for wireless connection? The lap top will be used in a different room in the house, not for traveling purposes. Thank you so much for all the answers.

Using Ethernet Crossover Cable
Step 1
Connect the crossover cable from your LAN Ethernet port on your PC to your LAN Ethernet port on your laptop.
Step 2
Run the Network Setup Wizard on the desktop PC. Click Start > Control Panel > Network And Internet Connections > Setup Or Change Your Home Or Small Office Network.
Step 3
Follow the onscreen instructions to create your network. Run the wizard on your laptop.
Enable “File & Printer Sharing.”
Reboot each machine and you should be good to go for file sharing between your PC and laptop.
Right click folders you want to share and select “sharing” to share files.
Step 4
Look for shared files under “My network places.”
Using Wireless Network
Step 1
Create a wireless ad hoc network. Open network connections on the desktop PC and double click on wireless connections.
Step 2
Click on the “Advanced” tab and select “Computer to computer (ad hoc)” networks only. Clear the “Automatically connect to non-preferred networks” box if it is selected.
Step 3
Click the “Wireless Networks” tab.
Under “Preferred Networks,” click “Add.”
In the “Wireless Network Properties” dialog box, type in a Network name–any name–but use the same one on both computers.
Step 4
Open “Network Connections” on the laptop.
Click “View Wireless Networks.”
The new ad hoc network “nameyouselected” is listed. Highlight the network name, and then click “Configure.” Click “OK.”
Step 5
Run the Network Setup Wizard on both computers.
Enable “File & Printer Sharing.”
Reboot each machine and you should be good to go for file sharing between your PC and laptop. Right click folders you want to share and select “sharing” to share files.

You can get a wireless router and set up a network between your devices and your internet connection. Go to linksys or windows help, they can help.

You will need to purchase a wireless router. The router will connect to your cable modem, and then your two computers will connect to the router. This will allow them both to use internet simultaneously. I’m not sure how you got that $50 a month bill figure. The wireless router may cost $50 itself, but its a one time charge for you to purchase it.
