This is a tricky item for someone with no experience with sewing. Unless you can find an already-made bean bag the size you will need to fit your mother’s lap, you will have to make one. This will require two pieces of material (at least 24 inches long and possibly 12 inches wide). You need to either hand sew them together or machine stictch them together leaving several inches unstitched so you can turn the material inside out and pour in the filling ( beans, rice, or styrofoam peanuts would work). After filling the material, stitch the remaining hole shut and decide what you are going to use as desk material. A wooden board or piece of hard plastic, or something stiff enough to write on will need to be fastened to the bean bag. I would glue it on in several places and hope it holds together.
