Desktops are usally better, if you just use it at home.

You can have the best of both worlds.
Most laptops have docking stations that allow for the use of a standard keyboard and monitor. You can have the large screen at home, and then take the laptop with you when you travel to be able to access email, banking and also to download pictures form digital cameras.
The better brands of laptops, are just as reliable as the larger desktops. The main reason laptops do not last as long as a desk top, is the mobile use that can lead to accidents which cause damage.
IF you use the laptop mostly at home in a docking station, you will find it will last for years.
You can use your current mouse, keyboard, monitor and printer with a new laptop, and all you will need is the docking station, to allow you to use the laptop mobile and then just snap it into the dock, and all the connections are restored.
Ask a sales clerk at a Best Buy or Circuit City or the like about laptops that have docking stations.

Desk tops:
deliver more power / dollar , cost less
have bigger screens
have bigger key boards
have a bigger mouse
break less
get stolen less
last longer
have fewer problems
.
I also have a laptop, which pretty much stays at home – it is a pain in the butt to keep secured when using it away from home.

Laptops were designed basically with one idea in mind ….. portability.
Unless you are a business person, where your job requires you to have access to your own personal computer at home, the office, or on the road, you’d be better off with a desktop.
Desktops often cost far less than laptops, desktops are less costly to repair, and desktops are easier to work on (do-it-yourself component upgrades).
Dollar for dollar, you get more for your money buying a desktop. And like your boyfriend says, laptops have smaller screens.
So ask yourself this question, do I need portability? If the answer is no, get a desktop.

No, it is perfectly understandable.
There are some Pros and Cons about laptop vs desktop, but ultimately it is up to your life style.
If you do all your computing from home, but like to do so from a home office.. desktop is probably better deal for you.. as you can get more for the money.
If you do all your computing from home, but also like to move around the house.. and you have a Wi-Fi at home.. laptop might be a better deal for you.
Here are some ideas for the laptop usage.
My wife loves a laptop, because she can bring it to the kitchen and look up the special online recipe as she cooks.
And I like to read online news/article at my comfy chair by the living room..
One time I even fixed my own car at the garage, while simply following the online instruction.
This kind of things are not possible with the desktop.
Without printing it of course.

Are you buying the computer for yourself or your boyfriend? Get a laptop that uses a docking station and you can have the best of both worlds. Laptops are for people who want to be mobile and able to take the computer with them without lugging around a lot of heavy stuff and having to reset up the system.
